Today marks one week to go until the official publication day of my new book Adventures in Anglotopia, and I wanted to give a quick update on various things related to the book. This week and next we’ll begin publishing a few select excerpts from the book to give you a taste of what to expect.
First, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered the book so far. When you put something like this out there, you hope people buy it, but you never know if they will until they actually do. So, I’m chuffed that people have decided to buy it (especially in the midst of the worst economic crisis since 2008). After the pre-order launch earlier this month, we made it to the top of the lists of the various British travel categories on Amazon, and I was truly chuffed to be sharing that space with authors I’ve admired my whole like like Bill Bryson and Rick Steves.
When I was preparing to launch, I set my mental goal of selling 100 print copies ourselves (as in from our online store). It was a modest goal, and I hope it would be enough to be able to facilitate a return to Britain at some point in 2021 (assuming travel is normalized). I’m happy to report that over the weekend, we crossed the 100 copy mark. I was almost in tears when this happened. THANK YOU! We have placed the order with the printer for those – because of Covid-19 – we’re expecting them mid-June. We’ll be ready to ship them to everyone as soon as they get here. It doesn’t matter where you buy the book, but please consider buying it directly from us.
We’ve finished the eBook version, and it’s ready to go. Apparently, though, with the platform we’re using to publish, you can’t pre-order it. But it SHOULD be available on June 1st from all the major eBook providers. We’ll update all the links when it’s available.
Next Monday, I’ve taken the day off from my day job to focus on the launch. We have a ton of fun things planned beyond the boring old marketing stuff. The biggest thing is that we’ll do a Facebook Live Session on our Facebook page. We’ll take questions, talk about the book and have a fun discussion on all things British. The plan is to go live at Noon US Central Time (6 pm GMT).
We’ve also set up a new main page on the site dedicated to the book, and there you can download a PDF excerpt as well. Check that out here.
