Billie Piper Claims a Doctor Who Movie Is In the Works

January 29, 2010 By Jackie

Doctor Who and Secret Life of a Call Girl star Billie Piper was on the Scot Mills show and confirmed that a Doctor Who movie is in the works.

When she was asked about the rumored movie – she responded, “They are doing it.”

That’s it.

No news on which Doctor the movie would feature or if it would include Billie Piper. We’ll keep you posted.

I’d love a Doctor Who feature film, but come on. They can’t seriously be considering bringing Rose back AGAIN, can they? It was bad enough when she returned at the end of Series 4. Don’t get me wrong – I loved her at the beginning. She provided a great foil for the dark, brooding Ninth Doctor, and the chemistry between her and the Tenth Doctor was just dazzling. But then we had to have Ten reminiscing about her ad nauseam in Series 3 and being unusually callous in response to Martha Jones’ affection for him. And, by the time Donna came along and we finally thought the Rose era was over and done with, back she came. I loved “Turn Left”, but I would have loved it more if Billie hadn’t gone on to appear in “The Stolen Earth” and “Journey’s End”. It would have been far more bittersweet and believable. Instead, she came across in the final two episodes as being soupy and jealous. To top it all off, she got her own “bonus” Tenth Doctor, which really cheapened the final scene in “Doomsday” for me. Please, just leave her where she is. What I’d like to see (and I’m sure plenty of fans agree with me) is a Paul McGann film about the events of the Time War. New characters, new story, etc. Let the Russell T. Davies era rest in peace, for heaven’s sake.

While I am a huge fan of the 10.5/Rose idea for this movie, I totally agree. A movie for the Time War is needed. It would fit better as a movie, and tell the story we all have been dying to see.

Plus, wouldn’t it be cool to see Paul McGann on screen again? I love his work in the Big Finish audio series, and he’s still young enough to be an appealing Doctor visually. He hasn’t lost that charisma that was the only redeeming quality to the 1996 TV movie.

Besides the fact that Piper is in no way a Doctor Who insider anymore, I don’t like most of the ideas fans pitch for a doctor who movie. They either want Tennant in the movie, which is unfair to the newer doctor, Smith, or they want a Time War movie.

A Time War movie shouldn’t happen, because it wouldn’t please us. Think about it: we think the Time War is so amazing and awesome because of the legendary status it has been given in the series. It even has it’s own made up things, like the Nightmare Child, to sweeten the deal. Basically, we can all agree the Time War was really cool.

But specifics are where the fans wouldn’t be pleased. In your imagination, you have this image of what the Nightmare Child might look like. It is probably radically different from what I, or anyone else thinks. I see a giant wormhole with a conscious mind, you might see a little girl able to move stars or something. I think the Cruciform was a small weapon, you might think battleship. The Moment was a shard of energy for me, it could be an engine, squirrel, or pastry, for you.

The Time War is too mythological and ethereal to show, thus too many of us would end up saying “they didn’t do it right,” and it will have all been for naught.

I love it every time that Rose comes back. She has amazing chemistry with David Tennant. If he is doing the movie she should too!

The Chemistry between Rose and Dr. Who was matchless, the end of season 4 was the only possible end for tho people that were in love. Of course Dr. Who was heartbroken, but he knew was not possible a life with her as he would live longer. Instead this Clone with same emotions, memories and feelings for Rose make the perfect sense since the clone does know he has a change to allow that love to grow. In the end is a great love story, I was a little mortified when Martha was falling for the Doctor and he couldn’t respond her back. That’s because he was in love with Rose, not because Martha is not some one very lovable. Just like what happen in real life, you may find the right person for you an later found out there is another person for you but you heart already belongs to someone else. I was very happy with the finale as sci fi materials usually do not contemplate the emotional side of us. Great Job BBC!

please excuse me while I die of shock and anticipation.
please dear god let this be rose/10.5
but she said ‘they’ so… we’ll just have to wait and see….
plus I don’t know if they’d have david back so soon. Hardly enough time to build a huge ‘omg he’s back’ sort of thing… Idk, hopefully whatever comes from this will be something us Whovians won’t be disappointed in (which is highly improbable)

and by improbable I meant we will most likely not be disappointed

I thought I saw an interview where DT denied there was a movie

    • vislorturlough says

      January 30, 2010 at 2:26 pm

That was a while ago. I have my doubts about this press release – mainly because it was just a brief comment, and Billie Piper can’t be that close to the nerve center of Doctor Who production at this point in her career. Still, with the enormous DW fanbase and the generally engaging concept of the show, I’m sure it won’t be long before some kind of feature film is released – or at least another big-budget TV movie.

  4. Sofia says

    January 30, 2010 at 3:20 am

At comic con, I believe, DT said he didn’t know, and then went on about the upcoming anniversary of the program. And that he didn’t know anything. And maybe there was something in there about something “awesome”?

“When she was asked about the rumored movie – she responded, “They are doing it.”

    That’s it.”

Billie said more than that, certainly more worth quoting. Has Jackie even heard the clip?

The full portion of the Doctor Who discussion is on several websites, (including here http://www.kasterborous.com/2010/01/29/piper-on-movie-theyre-doing-it/) – I find it remarkable that you’ve blogged about this seemingly without hearing it!

  6. Karl says

    May 20, 2010 at 2:21 pm

I think that yes, the idea of a movie showing the time war is possibly a mistake due to the huge mythological background to it all, as said above it is an ‘imagination’ thing that if anyone tries to tell it it may be like the tardis console room itself in its natural form – incomprehensible – due to so many ideas about what could have happened. But I ask you this:
Doesn’t Paul McGann’s doctor deserve one more outing, and indeed the chance to re-generate, every other doctor has done that. And it would bring so much closure to both the time war and McGann’s tenure, which has been lets face it a long time coming.
In addition to this I think a movie byitself is not quite sufficient, why not apply the same budgetary attachment and work that was put into the 2009 specials to make a set of two or three tv movies, much more realistic and would give more scope to the storytelling, not to mention further flesh out McGann and his time as our Doctor.

So from me, its a yes to anything intended to close the gap and bring in the answers to what we the fans want to know and see, and to finally satisfy the gap in the eight doctor’s time!
