This Week on our Instagram Feed – Hardy’s Birthplace, Much Wenlock, Books We Loved and More!

May 31, 2016 By Jonathan 1 Comment

We share several images of England and London throughout the week on our Instagram feed. Here’s a summary of the last week’s worth of photos so readers of the blog can also see them. Feel free to follow us on Instagram @anglotopia.

We’re getting reports that the second issue of the Anglotopia magazine is starting to arrive to those who ordered it. If you ordered one it should be arriving any day now. Enjoy!

Thomas Hardy’s Birthplace where he also spent a large portion of his life. He wrote Far From the Madding Crowd in the upstairs room (second window from the left). From our recent trip. Truly magical day.

Picked up this book on our recent trip and just finished it. I LOVED it. Great insight into farming life in the Lake District. It’s out in the USA now – I highly recommend it.

Found this treasure at a used bookstore in Michigan yesterday. What an odd thing to find there. But as we love this part of Dorset and a big chunk of the book is about our favorite place, Shaftesbury, it’s almost as if I was meant to find it!

Stumbled upon the lovely town of Much Wenlock in Shropshire on our last trip. Now we’re in love with the place. The Wenlock Priory ruin is nearby and it was home to the birth of the modern Olympic movement. We loved the shops on the high street – including 2 great bookstores.

One of the reasons I like renting a car is the opportunity to ‘stumble’ across somewhere unplanned – what I call “zigging instead of zagging”. Don’t recall where we were going but we found Much Wenlock. We spent the night at The Talbot Inn in a room over the converted, former malthouse (c. 1762) – squeakiest floors you’ve ever heard! =) The next day we wandered in & out of shops – found some interesting (educational) items for the grandkids, made our way to the Priory, taking a gazilliion pictures along the way. =) I’d go back & do it all again!
